Taoiseach Brian Cowen officially opened the Limerick Tunnel on Tuesday 27 July 2010. The tunnel is expected to take up to 27,000 vehicles per day off the streets of Limerick city. This could increase to 40,000.

Architect Daniel Libeskind’s Grand Canal Theatre, part of the larger development by Chartered Land, is a dramatic addition to Dublin’s docklands. Retirement of Noel Golden & Jim Tuohy
December 2009 saw the end of an era for Sisk with the retirement of two of our Main Board Directors, both of whom served in the Western Region for many years.
Noel worked for 36 years with Sisk in the Western Region based in the Galway office, while Jim who was with us for 30 years, the last 10 of which were spent running the Limerick office.

Sisk have been selected from among 8 bidders to construct and commission the new National Institute of Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT). NIBRT is a world-class institute that provides training and research solutions for the bioprocessing industry in state of the art facilities. The 150th Anniversary Book was launched on Tuesday 15th December 2009. The launch took place at SISK Group headquarters on the Naas Road , Dublin with over 100 staff members present.
Sisk has been awarded this contract as a key element in the delivery of one of the largest and most energy efficient Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) plants in the UK, supplying up to 3 million homes. Work commenced on 31 August.
John Sisk & Son Ltd, Northern Ireland, were recently awarded a contract for the construction of the new facility for Bombardier for manufacturing a portion of the wings of their new C-Series plane. This project was won in the face of stiff competition. Great credit is due to all the team members from Sisk who were involved in the wining of this prestigious project.
This year the GAA are celebrating their 125th Anniversary of the establishment of the Association in Thurles, Co. Tipperary on 1st of November 1884.
As part of the celebrations The Irish Times and The Sisk Group who are both celebrating 150th Anniversaries this year teamed up with the GAA and Cumann na mBunscol and held a photography competition on The GAA 125 Schools Day which took place on Friday 24 April 2009.
On Saturday the 13th June, over 40 SISK Group staff members safely returned to Dublin following completion of a charity cycle from Cork to Dublin in aid of the Hospice Home Care for Children Campaign.
The cycle was organised to commemorate the 150th anniversary, and also the historic links for the SISK Group having been founded in Cork in 1859.
The event raised over €70,000 for the Irish Hospice Children's Palliative Care programme.
May 2009 saw the SISK Group partnering with Habitat for Humanity (HFH) Ireland to work on their ‘Global Village: Orphans & Vulnerable Children’ project in Mozambique. This afforded ten SISK Group staff members the opportunity to travel to Mozambique for eight days to help ensure that the most needy and vulnerable of society are given the opportunity to grow up within their family units and communities.
Richard Sutton, 3rd year Apprentice Carpenter/Joiner is the winner of the Joinery Section at the National Skills Competition 2009 and Michael Dunne, 4th year Apprentice Carpenter/Joiner came second in this category.
This is a major achievement for Richard and Michael especially as their success comes during our 150 Year Celebrations.
The architectural practice of Gilroy McMahon has won the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland (RIAI) Gold Medal for the Croke Park Project. The Gold Medal has been has been awarded since 1934 to a building of exceptional merit.

Following a highly competitive public tendering process Sisk have been awarded the Design and Build Contract for the redevelopment of the Mater Adult Hospital. This €130million project will start on site in summer 2009 following the completion of the site enabling works separately.

CPD Ensures Ireland’s Engineers Best In Field
Wednesday 2nd July, 2008: John SISK & Son Ltd is the 100th company to be awarded the prestigious CPD (Continuing Professional Development) Accreditation by Engineers Ireland, it has been announced. The company received the accreditation following an audit of its lifelong learning practices for engineering professionals and was presented with the award by Ms. Mary Coughlan T.D., Tánaiste, and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
Sisk co-sponsored the visit to Dublin of the world famous architect Daniel Libeskind. Daniel was in town to give an interview attended by over 1000 people at the National Concert Hall.

What is believed to be the largest pour of its type in Ireland to date (2625 cubic metres) will begin on Friday 25th April when over half the raft basement slab is poured at the Spencer Dock Hotel.
On Friday 4th April, Kilkenny County Council as Lead Authority and Roadbridge Sisk Joint Venture trading as SRB Civil Engineering Ltd signed a contract for the construction of the N9/N10 Phase 4 Knocktopher to Powerstown High Quality Dual carriageway/Motorway. The total scheme cost is 467 million euro and represents the largest project ever undertaken by Kilkenny County Council.

The Convention Centre Dublin, being built by CMP (a 50:50 JV construction company owned by Sisk and Treasury Holdings), is the first building in the world to contain Carbon Neutral Concrete. By lowering the embodied CO2 of the concrete with the use of Ecocem Cement, and offsetting the remaining Carbon Footprint, the concrete becomes Carbon Neutral.
Planning permission with conditions has been granted for the Greystones Harbour Project which will be one of the most challenging civil engineering and architectural projects to be undertaken in Ireland over the coming years.
